Crockett County Release Meanings
A name leaving a Crockett County jail view identifies a change in that view, not the full legal outcome. The person may have posted bond, received recognizance release, completed a short sentence, received credit for time served, had a charge dismissed, begun probation, or moved to another custodian. A transfer to the Tennessee Department of Correction, another county, federal authorities, or immigration custody is not a community release. The Crockett County booking and release record should state the physical endpoint, while the court record supplies the legal authority behind it.
Release language must be read precisely. Bond permits departure under stated conditions but does not dismiss the charge. Time served resolves the custody part of a judgment but may leave fines, supervision, or later court dates. Parole is conditional community release before sentence expiration. Probation is ordered by a court and may follow split confinement. A discharge or sentence expiration may end one custody term without ruling out a new case or another agency's hold.
- Discharge
- An official end to a custody or supervision status shown by the responsible agency.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that can send a person to another custodian after one jail releases them.
- Time served
- Credit for time already spent in custody toward a sentence.
- Expungement
- A court-ordered process that removes qualifying records under Tennessee law.
Crockett County Release Types
The next search depends on the release code. Crockett County's public sheriff pages do not publish a code legend, so the jail should be asked to spell out any abbreviation in the underlying record. The destination field matters just as much as the status field.
| Release type | Meaning | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Departure while the case continues under court terms | Jail release entry and bond order |
| Time served or expiration | Custody term reached its stated end | Judgment and release authorization |
| Probation or parole | Community release with supervision | Court order, FOIL status, or release certificate |
| Dismissal or court order | Court action authorized release in that case | Docket and signed order |
| Transfer | Custody moved to another agency | Receiving-agency field and new custodian's locator |
A deceased or escape code would also need exact agency wording. Neither should be recast as an ordinary release. Confirm the booking number and episode before applying any code to a person with a similar name.
Note: A release from Crockett County Jail does not prove that every warrant, sentence, detainer, or supervision term has ended.
Crockett County Release Record Fields
A strong Crockett County release record ties the correct person to one custody episode, identifies the authority that ended it, and shows the next destination. No public county interface was found that guarantees all these fields online. Ask for the jail history or booking and release record for the named booking episode.
| Field to request | What it clarifies |
|---|---|
| Booked name, aliases, birth identifier | Whether the record belongs to the correct person |
| Booking number and admission time | Which arrest and custody episode is involved |
| Charge, court, commitment authority | Why the jail held the person |
| Bond type, amount, and posted status | Whether bond authorized departure |
| Release date and time | When that physical custody episode ended |
| Release authority and reason code | Who authorized release and why |
| Destination or receiving agency | Community departure versus a transfer |
| Detainer disposition | Whether another hold affected the next status |
Ask for the data dictionary or code legend too. A court docket may show dismissal, sentence, or probation yet omit the exact time jail staff completed release. A bond entry can predate physical departure. The jail record supplies the custody endpoint, while the operative order explains the legal result.
Note: Match the release entry to one booking number because the same person can have several Crockett County custody episodes.
Request Crockett County Release Records
Tennessee has no single release-record repository. The Crockett County Sheriff's Department keeps local jail booking and release material. The Circuit Court Clerk keeps the docket, bond order, judgment, sentencing order, probation order, and later disposition entries. TDOC keeps state felony custody, movement, sentence, and release records.
- Collect the full booked name, approximate booking date, booking number, and case number. Use a second identifier to avoid a same-name error.
- Call Crockett County Jail at 731-696-2121. Ask whether the person left that booking, the date and time, release code, and whether the destination was the community or another agency.
- Request the existing booking sheet, release log entry, release authorization, code legend, and receiving-agency field. Ask for electronic copies after inspection if needed.
- Compare the answer with the Crockett County Circuit Court Clerk's docket and operative order at 731-696-5462.
- If the record shows TDOC transfer, use FOIL and request archived TDOC release or movement records when the public result is too thin.
Under the Tennessee Public Records Act guidance, inspection rights generally apply to Tennessee citizens and remain subject to exceptions. When prompt production is not practical, the custodian has seven business days to produce the record, deny it in writing with legal grounds, or explain the delay and give a reasonable production time. That is a response rule, not a universal delivery deadline.

Inspection is ordinarily free. Copy, delivery, storage, and qualifying labor charges may apply under a lawful policy. The general state schedule commonly uses $0.15 per black-and-white page and $0.50 per color page, plus eligible labor after the first hour, but no Crockett Sheriff-specific fee schedule was verified. Ask for an estimate and do not assume a fee.
Crockett County Release Record Laws
T.C.A. § 10-7-503 broadly defines Tennessee public records and establishes inspection and copy rights for Tennessee citizens unless another law makes material confidential. T.C.A. § 10-7-504 contains important exceptions. The law concerns existing records. It does not require the jail to answer research questions or create a custom report that its system does not maintain.
No official Crockett County source reviewed published a retention period for jail registers, release logs, booking records, photographs, or recordings. A name disappearing from a live display does not mean that the source record was destroyed. Ask the records custodian for the schedule and record-series name.
Expungement under T.C.A. § 40-32-101 is court ordered, not automatic. The Tennessee courts expungement resource describes qualifying paths and filing in the court where the case began. Once completed, an order can be sent to the arresting agency, jail, TDOC, TBI, and FBI. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, and other protected records do not follow ordinary public access.
Crockett County Jail Release Context
TDOC jail reports provide real local context, but not release volume. The January 31, 2025 snapshot counted 46 people against 64 beds. The July 2025 snapshot counted 50 against 64. These figures are single-day occupancy and custody-category reports submitted through the state jail-report process. They are not annual bookings, annual Crockett County releases, average stay, or a measure of jail performance.
The TDOC jail summary report hub explains the snapshot series. Occupancy can change each day, and the report cannot identify who entered or left between snapshots.
Crockett County Release Court Records
The Crockett County Circuit Court Clerk administers Circuit, General Sessions, and Juvenile court records, which creates one local navigation point after a booking leaves the jail view. Circuit and Criminal records can document felony prosecution. General Sessions often holds the early misdemeanor or preliminary path. Juvenile access is sharply limited, and sealed or expunged matters require care.
Ask for the docket sheet, charging instrument, bond order, judgment, sentencing order, probation order, revocation order, and any later completion or discharge entry that fits the case. The Crockett County government directory lists the clerk at 731-696-5462. Official pages conflict on the clerk's email, so call before sending sensitive information.
The statewide Tennessee Public Case History tool covers appellate matters, not a full county trial-court docket. A normal Crockett County case that was never appealed may not appear there.
Note: An absent appellate result does not show that no Crockett County trial case or release order exists.
Find Crockett County Released Inmates
Start with the custody episode, not one broad search. For a Crockett arrest or short county sentence, call the jail and compare the clerk's court record. For a Tennessee felony prison or supervision history, use TDOC FOIL. For an alert, use VINELink and confirm the notice with the reporting agency. Federal prison and immigration custody require separate federal tools.
- Match the full name with a booking date, date of birth, booking number, TOMIS number, or case number.
- Ask Crockett County Jail for the exact release or transfer code, date, time, and destination.
- Check the court disposition to learn whether bond, dismissal, sentence, time served, or probation authorized the change.
- If transferred to TDOC, search FOIL and read the exact status and date labels.
- If a federal or immigration detainer appears, check the matching federal custodian rather than treating county absence as freedom.
The Crockett County 24-Hour Release List explains the local no-feed finding and records-request fallback. The jail records line remains the direct route for a named local booking.
Crockett County FOIL Release Search
TDOC's Felony Offender Information Lookup is the strongest public online source for someone currently or formerly in Tennessee felony custody or supervision. It is not a search for every Crockett County booking. A short local misdemeanor, dismissed arrest, or pretrial stay that never entered the TDOC felony system may be absent.
Open the FOIL search and use a TOMIS number when known. Otherwise, search the full legal name and compare the middle name, birth information, aliases, photo, and TOMIS number. Then open the detail and read each sentence row. TDOC says the record may show photo, status, location, offense, sentence information, parole-hearing status, and release information.
| FOIL field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| TOMIS number | Primary TDOC identifier for matching |
| Incarcerated | Still in TDOC custody |
| Parole or probation | In the community under supervision |
| Inactive | Not active in TDOC custody or supervision; detail is still needed |
| Release information | Use the exact displayed date and label |
The official TDOC FOIL page shows its scope and field description.
This captured agency page helps separate former TDOC offender data from the local jail records that FOIL does not cover.
Note: Release eligibility, parole hearing, sentence expiration, and actual release are different events and must keep their live FOIL labels.
Archived Crockett County TDOC Releases
When FOIL is too thin, TDOC offers a formal archived-record route for former state offenders. Request the release authorization, actual release date and type, discharge or sentence-expiration document, and nonconfidential movement history. This is especially useful when an inactive label does not explain how or when TDOC involvement ended.
The TDOC archived record request page provides its portal and mailing route. It asks for detailed identifying information and the records sought. TDOC warns that archive charges may apply, sends notice after the work is complete, and says not to prepay. Questions go to 615-253-8079.
The portal is a government evidence route for state release material, not a replacement for Crockett County Jail records or the county court disposition.
Crockett County Recent Release Records
No official Crockett County 24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour release feed was found during the August 1, 2026 sweep. The sheriff's official navigation did not publish a public inmate roster, recent-release view, release window, field list, update schedule, photo flag, or retention period. That finding means a bounded release-log request is the reliable fallback.
A local WBBJ report supplied from the BluHorse jail system is useful but narrower. It is a weekly booking cohort. Each entry can show a top-level HELD or RELEASED status at print time, plus booking and arrest details, but the visible PDF does not give actual release time, release reason, or an individual photo. Someone released long after the covered booking week would not become a new entry in a later intake report.
The official Crockett County sheriff site is the proper place to check for later additions.
The captured sheriff page documents the official web presence used in the sweep; it should be rechecked because online features can change.
Note: A weekly intake status is only a lead; request the dated release entry before stating when or why custody ended.
Crockett County Transfer Release Codes
Crockett's BluHorse material shows why fields must be read together. One local report can contain “Arrest Location: TRANSFERED” while the top-level status still says “HELD.” The misspelled transfer-like location field does not override the custody status. It also does not prove community release.
Ask the jail for the release or disposition code and the destination or receiving agency. If the person went to TDOC, FOIL becomes the next locator. If another county took custody on a warrant, that county's record controls the next status. A federal or immigration destination calls for its own locator and documentation.
Crockett County Release Status Channels
VINELink can provide a specific-person custody event and prospective alert when the reporting agency participates. Tennessee's state corrections system uses VINE, while Crockett County jail coverage must be tested in the live search for that booking. Select Tennessee, search by name or offender ID, compare the reporting agency and identifiers, and retain the event message. A VINE release event confirms what that custodian reported, not that no detainer followed.
Parole and felony probation are supervised by TDOC, while the Tennessee Board of Parole decides parole grants. Crockett County is routed to Community Supervision District 61 in Union City. A grant or hearing date does not prove physical release. FOIL status, release authorization, and approved release plan provide stronger proof.
Federal prison release is checked through the BOP Inmate Locator. “Released” or “Not in BOP custody” only answers the federal prison question. ICE custody uses the ICE locator, but a missing result may reflect spelling, lag, eligibility limits, transfer, removal, or release. No official source found that Crockett County Jail is an ICE detention facility or 287(g) partner.
Crockett County Release Search Choices
Each source answers a bounded question. Use at least two independent records when the result matters, and never turn silence in one system into a broad conclusion.
| Situation | First source | What confirms the outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Current Crockett jail custody | Jail phone check | Current status from jail staff |
| Past local booking | Jail release record | Release entry plus court disposition |
| TDOC state custody | FOIL | Exact status plus TDOC release document |
| Community supervision | FOIL and District 61 | Parole, probation, or other exact status |
| Federal prison | BOP locator | Locator plus federal docket or release order |
| Immigration custody | ICE locator | ICE line or records, separate from county release |
A registry is relevant only when a person has a legal duty to register. It is not a complete list of Crockett County released inmates, and a first registration date is not an actual jail release date.
Note: Use the source that matches the custodian; county jail, TDOC, federal prison, and immigration records are not interchangeable.
Historic Crockett County Jail
A local historical account says Crockett County's original two-story brick jail was finished in 1874 for roughly $10,000. It combined the sheriff or jailer's home with jail cells. The account is useful local context, but it describes the old facility, not today's South Cavalier Drive jail, its current capacity, or modern release procedures.
The Crockett County historical jail account cites a Crockett Times anniversary edition. Current release questions must go to the modern sheriff's department and the court that entered the order.
Crockett County Jail Release Facility
Crockett County Jail is the only verified physical detention facility in the county's page manifest. No official source found a state prison, federal prison, ICE detention center, juvenile detention center, or separately operated municipal jail physically in Crockett County. Municipal police may arrest or briefly hold a person, but the arresting agency should be asked where booking occurred.
Crockett County Jail is operated by the Crockett County Sheriff's Department. Someone leaving it may enter the community, TDOC, another jail, federal custody, or another authority. The jail release record and destination field distinguish those outcomes.
